Just à coté from our hotel you can visit one of the most beautiful Renaissance palaces in Italy, Palazzo Strozzi, that was the residence of the Strozzi family the eternal rivals of the Medici family.
With its characteristic cubic shape the palace is devided in three floors and has three entrances facing each side. Typical are also the big stones used to build it and the decoration of the corners with dragons and sphynxes made of iron.
After the refurbishment in the first half of the 19th century, it is owned by the State and gave hospitality to three different fundations: The Gabinetto Vieusseux, a literary association that owns a big library with many old books, the Institute for Human Sciences and the Palazzo Strozzi Fundation.
On the palazzo’s Piano Nobile and the Strozzina area the latter organises art exhibitions ranging from the art of the ancient world via the Renaissance to the modern and contemporary era. The Fondazione also hosts a permanent exhibition on the history of the Palazzo Strozzi, a café and a museum shop on the ground floor, giving onto the palazzo’s Renaissance courtyard where it organises concerts, performance art, installations of contemporary art, theatrical performances and a great deal more.
The programmes and collateral events accompanying every exhibition ensures that Palazzo Strozzi is an exciting experience for all its visitors, especially young people, families and children.
